About
Manolis Androulidakis is a Greek composer, classical guitarist, and arranger. He studied guitar with Notis Mavroudis and Costas Cotsiolis, as well as Musicology and Composition at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he won repeated distinctions. He later taught at the university's Department of Music Studies and at the Technical University of Epirus, and he is a member of the Union of Greek Composers.
His career has brought him alongside Mikis Theodorakis, Leo Brouwer, and Nikos Mamangakis, and orchestras including the Philharmonia London, the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, and the ERT Orchestra. He conducted Theodorakis's 90th-anniversary concert before more than 8,000 people at Athens' Petra Theater. His songs have been recorded by leading Greek voices such as George Dalaras, Vassilis Papakonstantinou, and Eleni Vitali.
He has returned to the classical guitar with striking arrangements and innovative techniques. His albums include Myrtia, the official collection of Theodorakis's works for solo guitar, Greek Cinema: Music for Classical Guitar, and Anthology for Guitar. His recital series Greek Music on Six Strings has played in major Greek theaters and at the Sydney Conservatorium. His guitar concerto Five Miniatures for Guitar and Strings premiered at the Patras International Festival and was later recorded with the ERT National Symphony Orchestra.
He conceived the opening ceremony of the Athens Authentic Marathon at the Marathon Tomb, setting ancient Greek texts to music with ancient and contemporary instruments. More recent projects include the album Window to Infinity, with lyrics by Alkis Alkaios sung by Yiannis Kotsiras, and orchestrations of Federico García Lorca's works for symphonic ensemble.
As artistic director of events, he works with the Cultural Association of Greeks in Hungary, presenting notable artists in Budapest, and with the Hellenic Cultural Center in New York, where he directed the artistic side of its 50th-anniversary concert at the Tony Bennett Concert Hall.
He is a Member of the Union of Greek Composers.
